This original antique Mexican American War Veteran's Medal is inscribed to Oliver Watkins, a private in Co. C, US Mounted Rifles, serving under Captain Samuel Walker, a well-known Texas Ranger. Circa 1870.

Shield-shaped, die-stamped metal with tons of detail, including a tiny canon, crossed rifles & swords, and a wreath around "Mexico" in the center with the date 1846, there is a lot of detail to this veteran's medal. The names of prominent battles in the Mexican American War are listed around the edges

With a beautifully embellished script engraving on the back reading "Oliver P. Watkins" / "Co. C" / "Mtd. Rifles", even the reverse side of this medal is steeped in history.
